E386 – Pre-Flight Checklist

Let’s take a look at the final checks before taking off with the E386.

Assemble the E386. Place both the camera and battery into the E386. Check the lidar and ensure that the lens is clear of all debris. Attach the lidar. Attach the fuselage cover. Check and adjust the balance, if necessary (Center of Gravity).

Power on the Transmitter. Set the mode to FBWA. Throttle should be Idle (as low as possible).

With your E386 on the ground, power it on by plugging the Flight Battery into the male connector found inside of the fuselage. Hold the E386 steady for 15 seconds while it goes through initialization. It is extremely important for the plane to remain still during startup so the gyros will be calibrated properly.

If you are met with a “Bad AHRS” message on your HUD, wait for it to disappear before taking flight. It is common for this message to appear after powering on the plane, but it should go away within 5 minutes of the GPS acquiring a fix. If you notice that the “Bad AHRS” message remains after 5 minutes, power cycle your drone by unplugging the battery, waiting for a few seconds, then plugging it back in.

Users with the Pixhawk autopilot are granted an arming button beneath the left wing. Ensure that all members are away from the propeller. Hold the blinking arming button until new tones are heard. Now Pixhawk users will have the ability to move the surfaces and rotate the motor.

In FBWA mode:

Move the right stick to the right. This should result in the ailerons attempting to bank the E386 to the right, along with the rudder moving to yaw the E386 to the right.

Move the right stick to the left. This should result in the ailerons attempting to bank the E386 to the left.

Move the right stick up. This should result in the elevator attempting to pitch down the E386.

Move the right stick down. This should result in the elevator attempting to pitch up the E386.

Move the left stick to the right. This should result in the rudder attempting to yaw the E386 right.

Move the left stick to the left. This should result in the rudder attempting to yaw the E386 left.

Move the left stick upwards a bit to see the motor turn.

Do not initiate stick input for the following. Maintaining FBWA mode, set the plane level. The ailerons should be flush with the wings. The rudder should be neutral. The elevator should be neutral.

Set the E386 so it is banking right. This should result in the ailerons attempting a bank left and the rudder attempting a yaw left.

Set the E386 so it is banking left. This should result in the ailerons attempting a bank right and the rudder attempting a yaw right.

Pick the nose of the E386 up 6 or so inches. This should result in the elevator attempting to pitch down.

Pick the tail of the E386 up 6 or so inches. This should result in the elevator attempting to pitch up.

When everything has checked out properly, open Mission Planner for E386 and connect to your E386.

Under the HUD, click the Preflight tab.
