In this page we will plan a mission for the E386 with E38 Mission Planner. We will define the area to be mapped, specify the camera used, properly utilize the wind, and specify the landing strip.
Open E38 Mission Planner. Go to the Flight Data screen.
Select E386 from the drop down box marked in red.
Left click on the Add Polygon button. In order to place a polygon point, left click on the map. Place points in a clockwise manner around the area to be mapped.
Press the Survey (Grid) button. The Survey (Grid) window will appear. Select the appropriate camera. Choose the altitude of the flight. 120m is suggested. As the altitude changes, so does the Ground Resolution.
It is important to properly leverage the wind. A headwind is when the wind pushes the nose first. The tail wind is when the wind pushes the tail first. If flying crosswind, the wind pushes the side of the body. Always takeoff with a headwind. Always land with a headwind. Always plan swaths of a mission so that they are crosswind. Always plan the mission so that the E386 makes its survey turns into a headwind. Do not fly in winds over 20 mph.
In this scenario we will consider the wind blowing from West to East. Change the angle so that the E386 is flying crosswind.
The E386 needs to make its turns into a headwind to ensure a tight turn radius. In this scenario the wind is traveling from West to East. The E386 needs to turn to the West. The E386 must start its mission from the East. Go to the Grid Options tab and choose StartFrom accordingly. In this scenario we can start from the BottomRight or TopRight. BottomRight is chosen because it is closer to the launch point.
Go back to the Simple tab. Verify that the flight time is under 60 minutes. This allots 15 extra minutes for non-ideal conditions. Press Accept.
A window appears asking the user to specify the runway. Press OK.
Find the desired landing area. In this scenario the wind is moving from West to East. The runway should begin in the East and end in the West. This allows the landing to be done with a headwind. Left click on the map at East-most part of the landing area. Left click on the West-most part of the landing area. The landing approach points are automatically generated. The landing zone is shown. Minimum altitudes of the final approach are shown.
Press the Save WPs button to save the file for your records.
Connect to your E386. Press the Write WPs button.
The mission WPs are now loaded to the E386.
After the WPs are loaded to the plane proceed to the Pre-Flight Checklist.
