Because a drone may incidentally collect extraneous data outside a mission’s desired coverage area, it can be useful to crop out the unwanted areas to improve the aesthetics of the results. Cropping should be the first app you run on your mission so that subsequent apps will use the cropped data. To crop, first create a new shape and size it so it matches the desired boundaries. You can use a shape of any size or number of points, but it shouldn’t have crossing lines or internal cutouts. For easy reference, name the shape you create “crop”.

Next, find the Crop app in the mission’s analysis section and select the crop shape. Finally, click Apply Crop. DDMS™ will crop both the ortho-mosaic and DEM downloadable files and the Map Viewer display as well.
